Why aren’t they using some other routes, how come they have to come through our backyard here. Everybody’s looking at them. It’s getting a lot of them killed. And why do they have to bring it across the bridges, huh?
Why do they have to fight it out here on the border? Why not in the interior?
They’ve got submarines and tunnels, and airplanes and all sorts of ways to get the merchandise across. Are they stupid, or what?
These are the questions that certain intelligent people are asking.
Lots of others ask no questions at all. Or if they do, they keep the questions to themselves.
Well the Drug Cartels do have Submarines and airplanes, speed boats and tunnels. They all serve their purposes in moving the merchandise. But they all present difficulties, some obvious. Mini-Narco subs can carry over 5 tons of cocaine at a time. Of course they can’t travel on land, are expensive to build and pilot, and the risk is enormous…If the cargo is lost, it’s quite a bite. Speedboats are useful, but can be seen from the air, and again, only work on the water. Tunnels work, but eventually will be found out, if anyone is seriously looking for them. There are many back-up systems of smuggling as well that will be put into service when the other systems run into trouble.
So why is there such a war going on in Mexico at the moment? Nov 5, Friday, between 55 and 100 people were killed in Matamoros, depending upon whom you believe. The reason for the war is control of “The Plaza”…This is the politicians and police that control the border city, that allow the smugglers a spring board into the United States. The Plaza is up for grabs now. Competing elements of different cartels, and army and police are fighting it out. I don’t know if anyone knows the whole story. In the pioneer days of the 60’s things were very different.
It was cottage industry by counter-cultural types that were officially non-greedy. And as well, there was no possible way to corner the market, to achieve any type of monopoly. Profits rose and rose, bigger and bigger money became involved. The banking industry took notice. So did governments and their black-op intelligence services. And voila’, soulless drug cartels were setting up monopoly markets and eliminating their competitors, not by better customer service, product and price, but by bullets. Vertical integration had come to the drug world.
Buy it from the peasants, then pass it thorough to the border, then dominate some of the huge retail markets. Both farming and retailing are usually outsourced. That’s not where the big money is. Controlling the supply and the price, ending up with total or near monopoly, that is the important thing.
So. Like the the so-called good pirates of the corporate world, it’s important to eliminate, or at least cripple the competition. And the most logical place to do that is in Mexico. The Mexican Institutions, while always weak, have grown more feeble with time. And now there is competition from within the dung pile that is the political and security forces of Mexico today. The Cartels show little to no respect for the police and not much more for the army. So the fight for domination among the Cartels is in Mexico. Not the United States. The U.S Institutions still need more softening up. They’re working on it. And it is along the border, where all the wholesalers inevitably must meet. Of all the smuggling methods, the most efficient is still sending your minions across the great ports of entry that connect the major sister cities of the frontera. Minions (or drug-mules) are expendable, and losing an estimated 5% of your overall product is a perfectly acceptable business expense. And when you own the plaza, with time contacts are made, agents and police are corrupted, and once into the United States your just about home free. The United States much prefers to fight it’s wars outside the country.
So I hope this explains why so many people are dying along the border.
We would like to thank the anonomous Mexican videophotograher that supplied the raw footage in Matamoros. Watch the video here>>
Mexico will be saved when her people have finally had enough and say together: “No Mas”
