I’ll miss Walter Birdwell’s letters, as he passed recently.

Birdwell, a staunch anti-fascist, never faltered in his opposition to oligarchs, racists and

anti-environmentalists.

He also wrote some fine nature piece poems – set in the Missouri hills and also the

Laguna Madre.

These were not submitted as letters-to-the-editor.

They may be read on Writers Of the Rio Grande website.

I hope some young people review Birdwell’s letters (and poems), and are inspired to act

and write in his footsteps.
