“Two Grapefruit”

Thought I had them all,

Ladder to the top,

Arms scratched,

Eyes poked,

Hundreds of grapefruit pulled in early winter.

Painful, itchy work.

But in mid spring I found two more:

One hidden fat round high in green leaves among tiny new fruit,

The other fat round in thick weeds below.
I knocked the high one off with a broom.

It fell heavily to the ground;

I picked it up.
I lifted the other from the weeds.

The two, still good?

Yes, juicy, very juicy ,,,,
