We turn off the main street.
The corner house is empty,
The owner ill, gone to his sons.
Deeper on the side street
A woman, hip broken, stays inside.
She used to care for the absent man.
And along the street:
A bent-over man.
A heavy coughing woman.
A limping woman.
Another turn coming up ….
