He sits, back against the mesquite tree’s hard trunk.

The tree greens.

He sips a beer from a can, left hand.

His right holds a scratch ticket.

He studies the numbers.

A cap shades his lined forehead.

Hot for February, 90s.


No hurry, stretch those legs farther.
