I liked this book. It had been a while since I had laid back and read a “chick book” all the way through. It’s something every guy needs to do at one time or another. And upon further consideration, it can be easier to read a good bodice-ripping, lustful, star-crossed lovers, action adventure, than going to watch one at the movies. In “Touch The Mayan Moon” Susan Le Miles brings us to a time and place, and then relishes in that time and place, and in the world that she creates. There’s The Rio Grande Valley set in the recent past… Brownsville, while it was still a small town, before the modern era showed its face in the Valley. South Padre Island… a collection of locals and characters …In a time when it was more just a sandbox for the Valley residents and a few tourists than anything else. And of course The Yucatan and Mexico, where the plot progresses to its denouement.
Catarina fills the requisites of a romantically troubled heroine. She has issues. Seems to have almost perpetual mental pre-menstrual stress. Overly sensitive, prone to what could be called mild to not so mild paranoiac perceptions, yet beautiful, sensitive and ready to rocket. Catarina is all that. The male protagonist was made to order, everything that Catarina could want. Mix in families, and cultures, and the unique Valley locale, you have a recipe for the adventure women everywhere dream of.
While I am no expert in this genre, I can predict “Touch The Mayan Moon” will reach out to you and not let you go. We look forward to more exploits from Ms. Le Miles.
