In eastern Missouri,
By the muddy and wide Mississippi,
Mexican illegals arise early and maintain:
Mansion lawns and vineyards
And build boxes in the early dawn.
Home by dusk, and on Sundays – late into twilight –
They walk fast in shadows, past the mansions’ trees,
Hurrying home to sleep
Until bosses’ horns sound for
Those lawns, vineyards and boxes ….
