Subject: Pay Back, Blow- back, Chickens Home To Roost (letter E”G”N)

Editor:

So trite to write, “The chickens have come to roost.”

Almost as trite as” pay-back; blow-back; and getting even.

Or, “Keeping up with the Jones es.”

The terms apply to the United States of now.
The United States, beginning with the Russian Revolution in 1917, and moving though: Mexico; Iran;

Iraq; Central America; Cuba; Chile; Afghanistan;:and Indonesia, has tried to exert its view of the World

through local elections, even coups.

There are other examples, too.
Now, Russia, thanks to the social media, has begun to act the same.

It did earlier also via weapons – ah, The Cold War,

Not so cold, though, for millions, hot and bloody.

Remember Eastern Europe, much of Africa; North Korea; Vietnam; Afghanistan; Cuba; and, Nicaragua.

No surprise.

Getting even, staying in the game, or trying to get ahead.

And now for nuclear weapons.

The United States and the Soviet Union began the nuclear arms race at nearly the same time; they were

unable to agree on the absolute abandonment and then destruction of these weapons, from the atomic

bomb to its hydrogen relative.

Again, no surprise: The United Kingdom, France, India, Pakistan and Israel, plus other nations, have

joined the nuclear-weapon club. North Korea wants to join, and so does Iran, probably Turkey, The

Ukraine and Brazil, too.

If war should occur over covert and election interference, or over nuclear-weapon possession, citizens of

all the nations involved will be asked to “wrap themselves in their respective flags,” and also cry, “My

country right or wrong.”

Can the United States take the lead in reducing global tensions?

Can Russia,India, Pakistan and China and  even  the European Union do the same?

Why stop there?

How about Canada and Mexico?

Why not South America?

Even Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa?

Bets anyone?

How horrible to be virtually forced into an endorsement of violence due to one’s country’s intransigence.

Of course, some readers will angrily say, “Shut up! It’s your country. Love it or leave it.”

“Put your heart in America, or get your ass out!”

No, I’m here, trying to nudge it to peace, and hope that billions around the World are doing the same in

their lands.

Chill on the competition, and work on cooperation.
