I may have outrun my innocence
Maybe not

There’s not much time in this race
And the final turn is coming in sight
Soon it will be off to somewhere
That feels like a long lost home
Then to whatever comes
In the undetermined night.

I may have outrun my innocence
But innocence is catching up to me
It has an abundance
While I have none…

Endurance, patience, and delight
In all to come

Maybe it would have been better
To have slowed down.
I was in a hurry to speed it up
So quickly I flew that here I am
Right back at the start.

Innocence smashing into experience
Splashing the blood of wisdom
And bitterness

Sweet innocence is pure no more

What is the elixir of experience?
Rage, bitterness and lust
The pursuit of release and
The avoidance of pain

It all boils down to a
Distillation of whatever remains
When all else at last steams away

What is that?
