Maritimes Summer

How green.

How watery.

See the bays, coves, rocks and Atlantic.

Slow for curves, otherwise gas.

A  First Nation teen in brief shorts

Sticks out her thumb above backpacks,

Going to the city.

A ride, she needs a ride.

A First Nation woman sways into traffic,

The sun up two hours

She needs a drink, early..

The Newfoundlander, a hitch back from Alberta’s oil,

Accepts a donut and coffee –

Up all night on a sidewalk.

Needs ferry fare.

Lunch before a whale tour,

Hurry ….
