An update to this story, the Marine in question has been released from the Veterans Bridge in Brownsville
and is currently on his way with his Father back to his home in Florida.

This is a cautionary tale for all those planning to go to Mexico. When it comes to guns brought into Mexico you can never be too careful. Take care of all paperwork at a Mexican Consulate on this side of the border. Or better yet go hunting somewhere else. When Mexican officials see a gun they automatically go into freak-out mode. Their greatest fear is that weapons will get into the hands of honest citizens and that they will overthrow their corrupt regime. And if a Mexican official does make a mistake it may take a long time to correct.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Marine Jon Hammar and his family and to all that helped secure his release
