Editors Note:
Why can’t a biscuit be enough for some people
They want to know more and more
Por Que?
Confession: I’m that way as well
Sometimes biscuits just aren’t enough – edgardo
There I was, trying to be helpful,
Offering my El Bravo to the woman
In the middle of her breakfast.
She glanced at the paper,
Put down her biscuit, waved an arm at me
And said, “No! No! Malas noticias.”
She didn’t have to look at El Bravo to see:
Pictures of the dead, accidents mainly,
And stories of gun-battle deaths.
She dropped her arm, reclaimed her biscuit,
And never saw me leave,
El Bravo’s jaundiced (and often accurate) slant in hand ….

Gene, great poem. The detail of her putting down the biscuit to wave you away is powerful … bad news is not worth wasting a single crumb!
