Cayetano “Cat” Garza Jr. is a man of many talents; graphic designer, cartoonist, musician, and painter. As of June 1, 2014 you can add art gallery/studio owner and operator to the list. Originally from Harlingen, Texas, Cat moved away to pursue a teaching career in White River, Vermont at The Center for Cartoon Studies helping young cartooning students develop their work on the web.

Cat began making webcomics back in 1996 and has been publishing comics online ever since. In 1998 he published , a website devoted exclusively to showcasing his work. Joey Manley started a webcomics subscription site called Modern Tales in 2002 and soon after Cat joined up and then later he became part of Webcomics Nation which today is known as ComicSpace.

Cat is well known for experimentation in webcomics, most notably infinite canvas comics. His last serial webcomic titled Year of the Rat won an Ignatz Award for Outstanding Online Comic at the 2009 Small Press Expo.

MAGIC INKWELL is a new gallery and studio that offers drawing, painting and cartooning classes for all ages, graphic and web design services, cartooning/illustration art supplies, and Cat’s own comics, prints, apparel and paintings. The doors opened on June 1, 2014 at 412 W. Van Buren St. in Harlingen, Texas providing a unique place to come for hard to find cartooning supplies and art instruction literature, workshops and classes as well as special events. Magic Inkwell Studio & Gallery actively participates in monthly Harlingen Art Night events and hosts several events for adults like “Bottles and Brushes” drink and paint nights.
