It’s springtime in South Texas,
And once again, the densely branched
Huisache has donned
Its bright golden frock.
Sweet perfume
Fills the air
Among wild sagebrush,
Blooming cacti and
Abundant mesquite.
Later, fragrant yellow flowers
Will offer up
Their pollen to a multitude
Of bees.
But for now, a gnarled branch
Pointing skyward
Serves as the perfect perch
For a fierce
Swainson’s Hawk.

I do not go in search of poetry. I wait for poetry to visit me.

The huisache es uno de mis arboles favoritos! Ayyy! I can smell it’s fragrant flowers! This is my response to your poem “Huisache.”
