Meet Mystery Writers at Paragraphs
Saturday, February 17th 1-3 PM
Conversation and Book signings with authors, Pat Avery and Bob Doerr

Welcome back two of our favorite mystery writers, Pat Avery and Bob Doerr. They have graced Paragraphs over the years, both together as in Mystery Week and individually. They usually write independently but did collaborate on “Paragraphs:Mystery of the Golden Booby” with Joyce Faulkner and David Harry.
Murder with no Remorse by Pat McGrath AveryPat writes in many different genres; military history, fiction and children. Her most recent title is a cozy mystery “Murder with no Remorse”. Two murdered young women, drug runners from Mexico, an ambitious business man, a coast guard Sand Pounder, and stolen treasure from World War II converge in an investigation that pits Detective Rachael Vasquez, Hap Lynch, and his trusty dog Luke against a murderer with no remorse. Using South Padre Island as the main location for this story, you will discover local characters and businesses that Hap and Luke visit to solve the crime.
Pat spends the winters in Brownsville and the summer in Missouri with her husband Everett and Luke the Detective Dog. Besides writing you will find her at many of the art shows with her beautiful photographs and notecards.
“Greed Can Kill” a Jim West mystery/thriller, the seventh in the series, finds Jim traveling to Fabens, TX, in an effort to locate an old acquaintance who had written Jim a cryptic letter asking for his help in finding a briefcase. In Fabens, he discovers that someone has murdered his friend. Jim provides a copy of the letter to the local policeGreed Can Kill by Bob Doerrv explaining that he has no idea where the briefcase is or how to decipher the sets of numbers provided in the letter. Figuring there is nothing more he can do, Jim starts his trek back home. He plans to spend a night or two relaxing at the Lodge in Cloudcroft, NM, on his way only to find that he is being followed. An ominous, unidentified phone caller gives Jim an ultimatum – find the briefcase and turn it over to him within a week. A violent confrontation in Cloudcroft verifies Jim’s worst suspicion, a Mexican drug cartel wants the briefcase. The confrontation also brings the FBI into the picture. They also want Jim to continue his search. The search takes Jim to the New Mexican ghost town of Chloride where the final confrontation takes place and Jim finds out who the bad guys really are.
Bob grew up in a military family, graduated from the Air Force Academy, and then had a twenty eight year career in the Air Force.  He specialized in criminal investigations and counterintelligence gaining significant insight to the worlds of crime, espionage and terrorism.
Bob is a full time author now, with five mystery/thrillers and a middle grade fantasy already published. He lives in Garden Ridge, Texas, with his wife of 40 years, and an ornery cat named Cinco.

This event is free and open to the public.
