Festival Opening will be this Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
IMAS will be holding its opening celebrations for its second annual “El Festival de las Veinte Flores: Day of the Dead Celebration” this coming Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 1:00pm-5:00pm. Children and adults will be able to learn more about this rich Hispanic tradition through activities and talks that focus on the Day of the Dead themes. Activities will include face-painting, sugar skulls decorating, Day of the Dead Bingo, performances by UTPA’s Ballet Folklorico, papel picado and paper flower making, plus, much more! Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to take their pictures with the IMAS Catrinas and visit and learn about the IMAS Altar, which will be honoring 10 visionary artists of Mexico.
Throughout the entire week children and adults will be able to create their own artists trading cards in the Art Studio, partake in Day of the Dead-themed science experiments in the Science Lab, and join our talk “The Iconography of Healers, Saints, and Myths of the Border” on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 7:00pm.
Admission into the festival will be included with General Admission with the exception of the closing ceremonies on Sunday, November 6, 2011. The closing ceremonies will coincide with IMAS’ First FREE Sunday program, in which IMAS will be having free general admission from 1:00pm-5:00pm.
