Editor’s Note to “Night Cabin”

"Night Cabin" review

The history of the 1960’s, that most tumultuous and volatile of decades, has been laid to rest by many. Many people that did not live through it aren’t aware of how things were back then, much less how they could be again. The caste system, ethnic, racial, and religious discrimination were alive and well throughout much of the 60’s. Most especially in what was known as “The Old South”. Due to tremendous effort and sacrifice conditions changed. The phrase: “The land of the free” will always remain a goal and a dream and a process much more than a fixture of unchanging reality.

Also in the 1960’s, for a variety of reasons, the semi-feudal system of the southern plantation had run its course. Partially of course, because of technological progress. Also whether or not you believe in powers behind thrones, or the “shadow government”, or what have you had anything to do with helping end the blight of racism that stained the south, or not; The indisputable fact is that the thumb of oppression was lifted, or at least lightened, the press was unleashed to cover what was going on, and we all learned of the awesome force of the new media called television to influence our thoughts and hearts.

The 1960’s along with the civil rights movement were in a very real sense, the second emancipation of African –Americans. Unfortunately as it may be, there is always new tyranny on the horizon, thus necessitating the perennial need for a new emancipation. The lessons of the civil rights movement as well as almost all the lessons that can be gleaned from the decade of the 60’s are lost on the modern American. Even more are lost on the political structure.

History repeating…the greatest and first recycler.

The following protagonist is one of the heroes of that period in history. One of the Freedom Riders, confronting demonic injustice and hate and still returning good will. Something few would understand in these times…It’s so good to remind people of those days that are no more. Also it’s a fine story; it took me back in space and time…
