In previous years, authors who has a hard time finding a publisher took on the task themselves. “Vanity publishing” was expensive and difficult to make a profit in. Thanks for sharing this article. In our own experience with Createspace we have learned a great deal about self-publishing and continue to learn more everyday. While I worked in both an independent and Big Box bookstore as a manager, I can sympathesize with the impact Kindle and Ebooks are having on these stores and traditional publishers bottom line. However, I believe there is room for both, like much else in our society, we must reinvent ourselves to stay viable in this new age of technology. It’s been encouraging to meet with other self-published authors and learn from each other, I think it’s a much stronger community and anything that encourages freedom of speech is a good thing. Grant it, not everyone is a “Bestselling Author” but everyone has something to say or share, it makes the world a more interesting place.
