Brenda Nettles Riojas has been a force in border literature, involved in Latino or Tex-Mex poetry, or whatever you want to call it; anyway she’s been there, done that. Also perhaps more than anyone else, she has contacts with the Mexican literary community, both writers, publishers and politicians and poets. She is extremely principled, but she combines this with a diplomacy that the American State Department would do well to emulate. Her full time gig is Director of Diocesan Relations for the Diocese of Brownsville. I think this means spokeswoman, but I am never totally sure of what exactly a term means in organization speak.
