There was a big shootout two days ago near Anzalduas Park on the Rio Grande River. The border patrol was chasing a drug truck and the driver bailed out and swam to the south bank. The Narcos, or whomever it was, opened up on the BP. Two BP Navy boats were involved, returned fire and, according to a BP spokesperson killed at least one of the assailants. From what we can gather they thought:
- They could get their load back
- They could at least take out some grongo or pocho migra
- Or the the Border Patrol would cut and run
They were wrong on all accounts.
However, according to sources close to Writers of The Rio Grande, as recently as a few months ago some parks along Falcon Lake were pretty well abandoned to the contabandistas and Mexican Fresh water pirates. The pirates haven’t been too active lately, perhaps because boaters are much fewer and stay much closer to the US side. Also, the Texas Game Wardens are out in fuller force, or so it seems. Boca Chica Beach is being patrolled and there is still a checkpoint on Hwy 4 leading to it. Turn right at the end of the road and you’ll reach the mouth of the Rio Grande. Here’s an almost prophetic commentary.
