The film adaptation of New Mexico writer Rudolfo Anaya’s classic 1972 novel “Bless Me, Ultima” will premiere today with a Hollywood-style red carpet celebration at the historic Plaza Theatre.
Miriam Colon, the veteran actress who portrays Ultima, the curandera in the film, other cast members, and Walmart heiress Cindy Walton, listed as an executive producer, are expected to attend the El Paso screening which is open only to invited guests.
Anaya, an acclaimed Chicano writer, is often described as the godfather of Chicano literature and a widely respected leader in the Hispanic literary community. He has published various poems, short stories, nonfiction, plays and children’s plays.
