Beats Waiting

I’ve been wondering some about me
About how it’s gonna be and
How it’s coming down and shaking out

I was waiting around to die for quite some time
Now I know why
I longed so much to be free

The dog pulls at his string
The hurdy-gurdy man grins
He knows I’ll toss a coin to keep the music alive

And for sure his dog will dance
He’s waiting on his chance
He knows what it takes to get the bone

I have felt oh so alone
In my still and silent home
Where nothing moves just barely the time
It seems to creep along
Here on my own
Just waiting around to die

If you could have all the money
But had to give up all the heart
Gathered all the worlds comforts and gave up all the spark
Of love to bring to life
You’re most deep and true desire
And you said you could in a hearts beat
Just as quick I’d call you a liar
You my friend are already at the end
You’re just waiting round to die

I’m not ready yet to fly
Why push such a gift away
Every road ahead is yearning for the end
Death waits like a thief or a friend
Like a landlord, loan shark or banker
Some kind of implacable collector

I’ll walk through him some night or day
When was it I signed the terms of this sucker deal?
But for now, I’m not waiting around to die.
