Art Against the Wall

The recent completion of the US-Mexico border wall through downtown Brownsville provided the backdrop for local artists to display pieces addressing border themes and issues on Sunday. Hung along the painted black steel pickets, over 20 pieces of art were displayed for the afternoon. Some pieces addressed the border wall directly, and others spoke to larger themes of border security, cross-border cultural exchange, and undocumented crossing through the Rio Grande.

The artists who participated in this event made the large wall that looms between Matamoros and Brownsville more beautiful for the afternoon and through their work sent powerful messages examining and questioning modern border security policies and practices.
