“Ants (At An  Anti-Death Penalty Vigil)”

Just before,

grim reaper and gun control

grim reaper

Maybe after,

Robert Garza,

A South Texas gang member was executed,

I nudged some red ants with my shoe,

Looked at white, black and gray tropical storm clouds blowing over,

And glanced at hundreds of going home cars and trucks.

Garza, dead, or soon to be,

His victims, their families,

His family, his friends,

Potential boxed.

The ants lined.

The clouds fattened.

The vehicles sped.
